I heard a story on the local radio this AM about Biogen-Idec. They're opening a new drug manufacturing plant just north of San Diego for their anti-sense drugs. It's 300K sq. ft., and they're hiring over 300 new employees at an average annual salary of $40K/year. They'll initially turn out 3 batches a week worth $10 mil/batch. They're using the conventional technique of biologic fermentation; the reporter mentioned they bought their fermentation tanks from some dairy equipment producer in the midwest. I forget how many hundreds of millions they're sinking into this project. Gives a clear indication of how important CYGX's new process is, and what a tremendous cost-savings it's likely to represent.
