No it doesn't.

They can be 2 separate corps (entities) but still under one roof. I have a business that is incorp and we do one thing BUT are developing other business models in a close to but separate set of technologies. Once we get the new one off the ground we will incorp that one as a seprate entity and it will have its own name, president etc etc. but use the main company's sales team and other resources like a separate company but under the same roof at least in its startup phases. It becomes a 'sub corp' of the main one.

You do it for efficiency, insurance, liability, or you just want to keep the technologies separate, depends on the biz plan and how you want to structure it. Thats why I don't see it as strange.
