Why would you presume that? Microsoft axed Windows XP, not the enterprise editions of Windows.

This is an obvious consequence to HP discontinuing their Itanium workstations, which was discussed on this forum previously. Since IPF's server sales far exceeded their workstation sales, this made sense. Microsoft's announcement, therefore, is not a surprise, and it changes nothing with IPF's prospects, IMO. I also don't see how it changes Intel's previous commitment to converging IPF and x86 infrastructure through a common system interface.
