You are almost entirely correct in your statement that their fiduciary duty is to maximize the economic value of the company, or what we see as the share price. However, it is completely incorrect to say they haven't done their duty when comparing quarter to quarter. Their duty is to maximize the PPS over the long-term. They have much more insight into the future of the organization than we do as retail holders. If you disagree then you get to weigh in your vote during the annual shareholder meeting. If stock traders aren't holding for the long haul then they need to simply adjust their strategy by trading around news and not holding during news/CC events. Can't believe all the amateur griping on this board.
