Elmer Phud: I was not aware that Intel has publicly maintained that they would keep pace with Moore's "law".

It is, in fact, not a law at all. It is a trend. It is not based in physics, and there is nothing that requires that it be followed.

I cannot say when, but there will come a time when the actual bona fide laws of physics will prohibit Moore's "law".

Moore's "law" would seem to require ever-decreasing geometries, yet, quantum physics places a firm bottom on the size of electronic elements. In fact, most leakage in modern CPUs is due to quantum tunneling, and smaller geometries will only make that worse. So, I can't say when Moore's "law" will break down, but it is not too far off.
