There are many business reasons possible. GD or other offers better deal, faster to market, more responsive management.....the list goes on. And it also gives LNGT some leverage with ITT to tell them that they have other options.
But who says LNGT has left ITT. I am sure both ITT and LEI are smart enough to keep their relationship open for both current and future business developments.
You can also add in the fact that LNGT patents and technology will create multiple products. Maybe both ITT and GD (plus others) are working on multiple LEI products.
