OT Living in Hawaii for the past 15 yrs. I have first hand experience with the tsunami warning system. Don't get me wrong, I believe it is a good thing to have.....better than nothing....but....

About 10 yrs ago there was a quake in the Pacific near Alaska, I believe, which generated a tsunami warning here in Hawaii. The entire Southeast part of the island of Oahu was in the path. Most businesses closed and sent employees home. Tourists were told to stay put but go to the 10th floor or higher of their hotels. When the tsunami hit it was 18" high lol.

Moral of the story is......it is not fool proof and they have no idea what the effect will be when wave finally arrives. The other problem we have here in Hawaii is we have earthquakes very frequently around the island of Hawaii, due to the volcanoes. If a major quake like that in Indonesia were to occur off the coast of Hawaii, we would have little or no warning here in Hawaii. That's the one I worry about the most. lol

Anyway, thanks TAKI for post. Just thought I would add my 2 cents.

Aloha
