Makes me wonder whether a subdermal implant of a very slow release form of the drug might be preferable. Something along the lines of an insulin pump or slow release drug implants.

Exactly what an Israeli company called TransPharma was after and even collaborated with Teva to develop transdermal insulin delivery system. The insulin program failed but two others are still alive (hGH and Teriparatide).
