Caterpillar, Whirlpool post strong numbers; shares rally

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Caterpillar Inc. and Whirlpool Corp. served notice
on Monday that the manufacturing sector in the U.S. is in full-blown recovery
mode, boosted by rising demand both at home and abroad.

"The industrial sector is getting a really good pop lately from a strong
improvement in the global economy," Edward Jones analyst Jeff Windau said. "And
we should continue to see solid growth for the rest of the year, but the key will
be sustained capital spending by customers."
