Thanks Everyone!

Thanks to every one that has replied, and extended the warm welcome to the Den!

I’m not sure if this is the last of my 3 posts, or the first of my 15 per day… but plan to join as a subscriber, so it shouldn’t be a problem soon.

To be candid, I’m still cautiously trying to figure out this community, and approach to trading. I’ve got several friends that are encouraging me to get into penny stocks, and I think they are falling for the pump-n-dumpster created hype. This forum is simply out of place from everything else that I’ve stumbled across – and it’s led me to pay extra attention.

So far, I haven’t put a dime into the market, outside of taking full advantage of my employers 401K matching, and a corporate stock purchase plan. I’ve always been under the impression that the market was a far-more complicated beast than I could hope to conquer with my hard-earned money.

I’m deployed right now to Southwest Asia (someone asked before…I’m former Navy, but here in a support role to the Air Force) – and have the chance to work extra, and make a little extra money. And instead of buying the new car, toy, etc…. I’m considering making an investment in something other than a retirement fund.
So… I have tons to ask, and a lot that I’m both curious and skeptical of – but don’t want to come charging into the Den with dollar signs glazing on my eyeballs, and disrupt what seems to be an extremely friendly, disciplined, and patient group. Basically I hope to slowly earn a place amongst you.

The layout of the forum page is going to take some getting used to – right now, it seems very difficult to follow conversations. For not having hardly any posts about actual trading, Monk’s Den sure is a busy forum. Is that by design (on purpose) – or just the result of keeping a heartbeat of conversation going while the group awaits the next movements in the “plan”? Again – this forum contrasts so much from every other forum I’ve visited in my self-learning… it really seems like a meeting place of friends and like-minded persons.

I come into this a very cautious person. I’m married to my best friend, have three beautiful kids ranging from High School to diapers.. two dogs, house..etc. I already consider myself the luckiest, and richest person that I know. I work hard to keep that luck…

I watched my mother-in-law lose hundreds of thousands of dollars (her entire inheritance –and her siblings) in penny-stocks a few years ago. I think they were Xybernaut and Rambus. Back then – I just watched her greed, and shook my head. I didn’t pay a lot of attention, but her waves of excitement and hope seemed very similar to what I’m seeing my friends do today. One of them is using a home equity loan to gamble with. Needless to say – my wife has my same cautiousness in this arena.

Sorry about the long, drawn out intro post. I really get the feeling that there is a community here that I might eventually like to find myself a part of, and I want to begin to introduce myself in a real way. I won’t be able to attend a Monkinar for awhile (well – I did see Dubai pictures in one of Monk’s posts – I was there this week – maybe he’ll decide to have an event there) – so I hope to hang around the dinner table, and catch any scraps of good info… and continue to learn along the way.

Again, thanks for all of the replies and cyber-hospitality…. My spidey-sense tells me this is a good place to hang around…

-R
