My best friend is a conservative librarian and he has spent much of his career in Oregon and he has told me many stories about how the school system there is dominated with leftist, from the superidendent on down.
One day my friend had to ask a group of students to leave the library as they were disrupting the other students who were trying to study. He bent over backwards trying to get them to quiet down but they refused so he asked them to leave. These students were hispanic and they called my friend a racist as they left the library. To his credit, a liberal teacher was there to witness the whole thing and he defended my conservative friend.
These student went straight to their hispanic geo-teacher and lied to her about what had really happened. Then this hispanic teacher, without even bothering to find out what really happened, went to the principle to file a complaint against my friend. They were found out and my friend was cleared. None of them, including the teacher, were reprimanded for falsely accusing my friend of racism. Just think how this made my friend feel Eco.
Yes, there are many good teachers from both sides of the isle, but often times, especially in places like Oregon they teach the students victimization rather than respect and responsibility.
There is a reason some conservative teachers get like the one you cite. School systems, including college will be dominated by the left and they sometimes try to black ball conservative teachers from ever going to work there. And the work environment can be an unfriendly one for conservatives when ever the left dominates the school. This is not a myth.
I could spend the next 2 hours sharing stories like this one, such as the liberal teacher that stole a school computer and the principle asked her to meet him in the K-mart parking lot to retrieve the computer because the principle knew the legal and bureaucractic nightmare tact that the left wing teacher's union usually engages in.
Please stop trying to paint the left as the goodie two shoes while dumping on the conservative in your kids school Eco. It's likely you are unaware of the history of discrimmination that conservative teachers experience in many school districts across our country.
Our school system is in very bad shape compared to other countries and our system is dominated by the leftist teachers union and it's members.
When my friend was finishing up his Master's degree to become a librarian the lady professor (in a non-political science class), would use some of the class time to bash republicans and she was VERY rude to one of the female students in the class without justification.
Eco, your attempt to portray a conservative teacher as the bad guy and the other, non-conservative teachers as oh so groovy was unfair. You can bet the story runs much deeper than your version of it. And there are good & bad teachers of any politically leaning.
Remember, this board is not made up of teenagers. We have life's experience just like you do. We know better than to think your example of a conservative teacher is not the bigger picture of what is really going on in our country.
On a personal level I liked my liberal professors from last year, but they were unfair to use the classroom to demonize a political party. As you said, we have problems with both parties.
