When the church ladies conduct their food bank campaigns, they ask the congregants to bring certain items, all of which are purchased from the supermarkets.

The church ladies don't ask of the congregants, "Hey, grow some fresh veggies on the front lawn, and bring them in so we can either serve them fresh or can them for the winter."

I suppose one feels all warm and fuzzy inside as one places a plastic bag in the bin before striding reverently into the sanctuary.
