I'd say it is doubtful that people, smart people anyway, are still using traveler's checks. On my big cross-country jaunt in '08 I found a lot of places would not accept American Express. First time I'd seen that. Then I realized, why put yet another shaky institution between me and my money? What would those checks be worth if AmEx had gone belly up while I still had them? I no longer use traveler's checks, just cash and cards.
