News Bill that was passed yesterday in Ca State Senate that was introduced By Senator Alex Padilla

create jobs. Two of my bills aimed at creating good jobs here in California were signed into law this week by Governor Schwarzenegger. The first bill, Senate Bill X8 34, will expedite and prioritize state renewable energy projects receiving federal stimulus funds. There are at least 15 renewable energy projects awaiting action by state energy agencies and counties. These projects are projected to quickly create up to 15,000 jobs.

The second bill, Senate Bill 71, was signed into law yesterday and will exempt green manufacturers from paying sales and use taxes on manufacturing equipment to encourage investment in manufacturing, job creation and economic growth in our state. SB 71 specifically targets alternative energy and advanced transportation technology investments that create new, permanent jobs in California and produce quantifiable reductions in the emission of greenhouse gases, reductions in air or water pollution, or increase energy efficiency. It also requires that these projects be located in areas with high unemployment. California is one of only three states in the nation that does not provide a sales tax exemption or tax credit for the purchase of green manufacturing equipment. This bill will make California more competitive when considering whether to locate or expand in the state.
