That PR is false. Cooper Industries LTD is not part of the S&P 500. In fact, there is no Cooper Industries LTD. There was formerly a Cooper Industries LTD, but it became Cooper Industries PLC in 2009 (in the year before that PR was written) and Cooper PLC is not part of the S&P 500 either.
