I sometimes like to place a few trades with tight s/l to test the market and see how something trades. After making a couple hundreds pips I can allow that to myself.
So for example if a currency looks weak and I believe it has a short term resistance above I enter s/l there, if it hits and reverses to it's weak state, it usually means it's not as weak as it looks, so I am carefull.
It's not t/a but instinct, feeling and experience, maybe most important after all.
