China's iron ore imports up 5.6% in Feb

Mar. 10, 2010 (China Knowledge) - China imported 49.38 million tons of iron ore in February, 5.6% more than the 46.74 million tons it imported in the same month of last year, according to statistics released by China's General Administration of Customs.

The February imports reflect 5.9% growth from January, when the nation's iron ore imports totaled 46.62 million tons.

In the first two months of this year, the country's total iron ore imports rose 21% year on year to 96.07 million tons.

The country's steel exports surged 55% year on year to 5.38 million tons in the period from January to February, and steel imports increased 27% to 1.49 million tons during the period.
