They had to add that what better person to head SSEV than Mel Robinson.

Who is they? This statement most likely came from Humphries, or at least the old BOD.
Maybe Mel (once in charge) decided that Charlton Coats was much better suited for the job.
This kind of thing happens all the time, with other companies, and changes at the top. No big deal, and definitely not any kind of red flag.
