Buying their old debt at pennies on the dollar-sounds crooked as hell,but I am sure they are doing it legal.Basically,if you are a shareholder and don't want your investment wiped out,you gotta hold the potentially worthless shares,THEN pony up at least another $50 k to stay in the game...
