While you LOL, AMD is still kicking Intel's butt in x86 performance

Yeah, AMD's top exotic part is a little ahead of Intel's
top mainstream part in SPEC2K. Or at least SPECint.

SPECint/fp_base2k:

FX-55 1750/1741
P4/3.8 1666/1839

Curiously Intel used CL4 DDR-II in its submission while
AMD used CL2 DDR in its submission. Which do you
think is more realistic?

You imply that AMD gets no benefit from SOI. How sure of that are you?

Everything else being equal SOI will get you about 10%
higher frequencies than bulk at 130 nm if your designers
thoroughly understand the ins and outs of SOI. A little
less at 90 nm.

I was thinking more specifically about power consumption.
When Intel's power problems with Prescott first became
known droids were buttslapping each other like crazy how
AMD made the right bet embracing SOI wrongly thinking
SOI was the silver bullet to slay the leakage dragon. Go
read the IBM paper again. The leakage biggies at 90 nm
are gate leakage and subthreshold leakage. PDSOI does
essentially nothing to counter those leakage mechanisms.
Please refresh my memory, how much is AMD paying IBM
for access to its process technology?
