Limit order for a high dollar amount Say $1.00 per share. It won't sell until it hits that amount. You can cancel at anytime to sell at another price but until then your shares must be set aside, by the firm holding them, an not used for anything else. PS If it's inside an IRA don't bother they can't take them out of your account to short sell them.
