Thanks for your reply and thanks to planbtotrade. It's good to know these things are buried in the forest but if TATF is so short of cash they can't buy back the trees as planbtotrade says then the thinning may not happen and/or the plantations may be abandoned or not at least not closely watched. A timber road can be cut in days if the timber at the end of it is worth the trouble and nobody is paying any attention. It has happened here in MN with absentee land owners.
Yes, selling in a depressed market is not wise if one has faith that the asset actually exists and is being cared for. Maybe I should take a vacation to Costa Rica.
I am trying to put a value on this investment for planning purposes and if it can't currently be sold even for half of original purchase price then that is a bad sign.
