Scottrade will not issue paper certs. if I want paper certs, I have to sign an outgoing DRS request, the shares then go back to the transfer agent (First Global Stock transfer) and then they issue the paper certs.

This does NOT sound like the thing to do. I've called this transfer agent, cannot get ahold of anyone, and do not believe this idea has merit. As long as my shares are in Scottrade, they cannot and do not lend them out. They also do not allow shorting on stcks under $5.

Jone - are you 1 of the shorters? Why did you recommend this strategy???
