The concept is to attack viruses. It is not to deliver drugs. That was the old TheraCour idea.

Not true. The attachment protein can't change. If it changes, the virus is no longer the same virus. Most viruses that mutate and shift do not mutate or shift in that way. The change is adaptation to changes in immunal response. Or, it could be changes that allow infection of new types of tissue, like the virus betters replication at higher or lower host body temperatures. Example: H1N5 thrives at higher temperatures which are found in birds and deep Human respiratory systems. Birds are easily infected, whjile Humans are resistant. A change in H5N1 allowing it to thrive at lower temperatures of the upper respiratory would allow it to more easily transfer from human to human.
