Here is a link to everything you need to know about plastic to oil compiled by United Nation Environment Programme. They list many of the major players, including Toshiba. They explain all the different ways to do it including using a catalyst (no secret). They make a point that the micro machines, as they call them, referring to any p2o machine that is not a giant factory: "However, waste plastic conversion using these micro-reactors requires special business and economic feasibility considerations." To me this means that the machines that don't take up a huge warehouse, don't make any money. This article also points out that NO machine can use certain plastics without creating hazardous waste. PVC is one of them. That means using a machine without sorting the plastic and having a backup plan for any that enters the machine unknowingly will be an EPA nightmare.

Bottomline, small scale machines that don't cost $50 million dollars are not feasible and conforming to the EPA requirements for dealing with hazardous waste costs a fortune.
