neomfriend: I know it is only January, but that is already the overstatement of the year.

In 2009, ALL OF LATIN AMERICA represented less than 10% of worldwide camera phones. Smart phone unit sales in Latin America are declining despite Gartner's wild predictions that we would see Latin America with 35% of the world camera phone market in 2009.

That said, the exciting part of Mexico is the demographics of private mobile users. They are either wealthy or part of the emerging Y-gen middle class. Mexico consumers tend to be brand loyal so it is important to influence brand choice as early as possible.

Also, Gartner now believes smart phone growth will primarily come from emerging markets. Gartner is much more subdued than their previous double digit growth rates. Essentially, the market is saturated which means we won't see new entry into the market, but unit replacement by current users. This takes more time than growing the market organically.
