That is absolutely true. Liberal is not communism. I am also involved in politics in Honduras even though I do not have a vote but my Honduran relatives do. I do not push the repubs because I think I am a democrat. At least I used to be. I am probably a Tea Party now because I will support an honest man if I can find one. Party labels are passe now. The last time I looked about half the country is now the Tea Party. As far as Honduras--yep they are the Tea Party too. Honduran politics - Much has been made in the press of the recent Honduran “coup”. What actually happened was that the president became too close to Hugo Chavez and was in the process of trying to install himself as a life president. Honduras has a constitution that only permits one term for its presidents (4 years). This is to ensure that no one is able to become a self styled dictator. Trying to change or even proposing to change this part of the constitution is not only illegal but regarded as treason. The constitution was written like this to ensure that democracy is upheld.

When the president tried to enact his Chavez orchestrated takeover the Supreme Court and congress ordered the military to remove Zeleya from the presidential palace. He was sent to Costa Rica as the Congress was concerned that there could be civil unrest as it was known that Chavez had sent over a thousand paramilitary personnel to assist Zeleya. This is documented as they were issued passports so that they could not be thrown out of the country if the takeover met with resistance.

In the afternoon of the same day Zeleya was removed, congress elected an interim president who will sit until the November election. At no time were the military ever in control of any aspect of the government, and every action that was taken by them was done so at the request of the Supreme Court and Congress.

No one is really sure why the Obama lead administration is so adamant that a wannabe dictator is returned to power but we can only assume that it has something to do with the oil and gas reserves that have been found off the north coast of Honduras. What ever the reason the people of Honduras and the foreign investment community are greatly relieved that Honduras has proven once and for all that democracy and free trade are the rule of law here and they will not allow anyone to change that, including the Obama administration.
