I tend to be a little skeptical sometimes too. Could be that the price is being driven up on small volume for future shorting or perhaps in order to induce selling so that someone can scoop up the shares before a big run as you have suggested. Personally I think sentiment is that there will be good news released soon and that if you want shares your going to have to pay a little more for them now, otherwise wait until the news is released and pay much more later. Most are holding and the MM's can't make any money if no one sells. The price is up because the MM's want to see volume. They do use underhand tactics, however as long as the long's stay firm on the ask they can't play games for whatever reason.
