BRCA testing (hate to beat a dead horse but some final comments/thoughts)

People make irrational decisions all the time in every area



of course - but in this context what proportion of patients, if counseled appropriately, would make the rational decision. then from an invesment standpoint, what upside is there from current utilization assuming messaging gets to the pts, and how effective will mygen be in educating docs to deliver this message (as well as direct to consumer efforts)

How about smokers? personally, I find it more difficult to understand someone who actively and knowingly inhales poison



smoking is not quite the same in that it is addictive, so some who woudl choose not to smoke continue to do so not by choice. also smokers get some upside in gratification. i eat some foods i know are not so good for me. if someone is already at the gyns for a pap then they are already of the mindset of screening for cancer. that type of person should be receptive to the BRCA story if it is delivered appropriately imo
