I vary my trailing stops, but in general, I usually do the following:
Sell 10-20% of my holdings at TS of 7-10%
Sell 20-30% of my holdings at TS of 13-15%
Sell 50% of my holdings at TS of 20-25%
Where it varies...
If it's a stinky pinky, I get all out much, much sooner. Too many things can go wrong.
If fundamentals and material events are strong, I tend to be much slower pulling the sell trigger on a runnup.
Don't get me wrong, I always take some profits on a run, especially when the RSI is running far north! (Hey, it's going to come down anyway).
There's allot more that I use to guide me, the key is define your plan and work it. If you don't have a plan for a particular stock, it will definately work you (over)!
I've learned the hard way...holding on too long, believing too much of the IHub Hype. I'd rather get some profits than no profits!
