Yesterday’s Action From the trading desk of Canslim.net>Rates Up, Crude Oil Up, Stocks Mixed.. Wednesday the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.89 points or 0.01% closing at 10,385.48 while the bellwether S&P 500 decreased 1.17 points or 0.10% ending the session at 1,162.91. The New York Stock Exchange volume total increased 4% from the prior session to 1.50 billion shares as big board advancers outpaced decliners 1,967 to 1,328 and there were 270 new 52-week highs and 13 new lows. The Nasdaq Composite lost 8.77 or 0.43% closing at 2,034.56 and the Nasdaq exchange's volume increased 10% to 1.85 billion shares. On Nasdaq advancers outpaced decliners 1,653 to 1,436 with 178 new 52-week highs and 35 new lows. Semiconductor stocks lagged today as Cisco Systems reported a disappointing sales outlook after the close Tuesday. A slew of broker downgrades followed, hurting computer hardware makers such as Hewlett-Packard (-3.7%) and Dell (-1.6%).
