From Allan Baird:
Today is January 8th and this is the first I have heard about questions concerning the Gold Buys. I will attempt to answer your questions. Again I am sorry that this is so delayed, I have been extremely busy and don't get much of a chance to check out the forum.
To date we have had very good success in the gold buying. We have sharpened our pencils and are able to be quite profitable. As many of you know the markets have been flooded with every Tom, Dick, and Harry trying to buy gold. Just down the street from us there is a used car dealership with a sign in the front stating that they buy gold. We knew going into this that it would probably be a short term thing. This has really put a damper to our purchases. We have tried several different things with some success.
We recently started a new program that drew alot of attention from the news media. I have been interviewed by the local radio, talk shows and several times by the local TV stations. We go into the local schools and set up a gold buy. The kids take home a flyer to their parents indicating that we will be there for one week. Parents come to the school with their old gold, we evaluate it and make them an offer. If they accept it we pay them on the spot. After the week is over we pay the school 20% of what we bought to be used for school supplies, computers, software etc. This created quite a stir among some of the residents that didn't understand the program. Once they checked into it they were on board. We are pursuing this concept and have other schools lined up. I will follow up on this and let you all know how it turns out.
As far as the gold that we have purchased in the past, we refined most of it and sold it on the open market. We used the money to fund Deep Blue Marine instead of selling stock and diminishing its value. We do have some gold and silver that we have kept for investment purposes and for display.
Someone asked if there were gold ingots avaliable, yes there are. We make them up on a per order basis. They are available in 1/2, 1, 2 and 5 oz sizes. They are stamped 999.99 meaning pure 24kt gold and all have the Deep Blue Logo. Call ahead for a price, which varies depending on the gold price of the day.
Hopefully this answers some of your questions. Please feel free to ask to ask any other questions, I will try to monitor the Forum better.
