If you get to Rancho Bernardo.....and like fine French dining in a casual atmosphere.......you MUST go to Bernardo's in the Village Shopping. Its excellent. Bernard is the owner and ex of the RB Inn. His wife Diana is a friend.
Also, Mille Fleurs in Rancho Santa Fe is wonderful French dining. Love it there. Might even see a movie star or two at dinner
On the lighter side, try Bob's Burrito Shack in Leucadia.
