So if a user can install a patch and run the Intel Compiler to gain the performance benefit on an AMD processor, what is the problem? Obviously, using the patch would be at the risk of the user but that is the whole point.



The patch(es) came from people who figured out what Intel was doing, and "fixed" ICC, not from Intel. Are you suggesting Intel disclose the issue to their customers and support the patch? Why then not a simple compiler flag like --ignore_genuineintel?

That would satisfy me.

Intel has no obligation[]...
Imagine the loud squeals by you and the rest[]...
AMD would run to the EU, Japan, Korea, US FTC and[]...

Anyways, its a moot point that's been resolved in the AMD/Intel settlement. Intel agreed not to incorporate such "artificial performance degradations" in their products.
