Hi Bob

Solar ELECTRIC panels are anywhere from $3.30 to $5.00 / watt. You can figure on getting 3 to 4 hrs of FULL sun / day unless you are in Arizona or southern Calif and even then they need to be angled into the sun (not horizontal like when driving down the road).

I run my house (cabin) on 200w of panels and use about 500w/ day. I have 600ah battery bank (6 200ah golf cart batteries)

What I really want is a 100 to 200w sterling engine I can mount in my woodstove!

Your generator should put out more power. Either you should get a DC generator or an inverter. Another alternative is another alternator (with solinoid)under the hood that is designed for charging batteries.

Take the road less traveled. It will make all the difference.
