Have you considered occam's razor?

They PL and SK let the options expire and took the cash in hand that way they didn't have to deal with the stigma of actually selling shares, something we have not seen from managent at all. I think the answer is as simple as that or close to it.

How would you judge them if they excercised their shares, waited for somthing to spike the stock and then sell at let's say $6 a share? I am sure they would be crucified by the likes of you and then the talk of SK and PL selling because it is the top for PPHM blah blah blah into oblivion.
