EMI Adopts Interoute's Share! To Distribute Pre-Release Music Securely Online

NEW YORK & LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 8, 2004--EMI Music is stepping up efforts to keep its pre-release music secure with the adoption of Share!, an online media distribution platform from Interoute, owner of Europe's most densely connected voice and data network.

Interoute's Share! will enable EMI subsidiaries to distribute forthcoming singles and albums internally and to third parties via the Internet quickly and securely, reducing the amount of physical product distributed.

Using Digital Rights Management (DRM) and watermarking technologies, EMI will be able to secure the music against copying, and ensure it gets to the intended recipient. Music theft prior to official release date is a growing problem for the record industry.

Richard Cottrell, senior vice president of content protection for EMI Music, said: "We take the threat of piracy very seriously, and adopting Interoute's Share! is one of many preventative measures we have been putting in place to protect our and our artists' music and to ensure that pre-release music is distributed securely."

Jim Kinsella, Interoute's executive chairman, said: "Record companies are increasingly falling prey to theft because of the reliance on physical music distribution. Share!, provides them with a secure and efficient way of managing the distribution of music via the Internet."

The Share! technology is already being used by EMI Music in the UK and Germany and will be rolled out to other European subsidiaries next.
