What i'm not understanding is why this indicates the trial is carrying on so much longer than expected? That's been the inference the ceo is pushing, implying this means the drug is working.

Say we drew two columns: on the left, we listed biotech companies where executives touted the “unexpected” length of a blinded trial as evidence that the drug in question was working; on the right, we listed biotech companies that turned out to be major scams.

I contend that the left column and the right column would have a high degree of concordance!
