It takes an outsider to think outside the box and Capstone Turbine has done it this year with the very smart and logical choice of putting a turbine to recharge a lithium battery pack. First with the announcement of a Ford S-Max PMV prototype, the company went even further with a stunning Factory Five, a PHEV at the LA Auto Show.

It would make sense to see a startup or less established company, and in the case of Capstone Turbine, an outsider push the envelop. Mainstream car makers, on the whole are big and heavy which puts them at a disadvantage to react quickly and introduce new technologies. Hopefully, both can help each other.].....
