Marine Exploration Will Not Face Same Court Entanglements That Odyssey Marine Encountered Regarding Ownership Of Treasure Discovery

MIAMI, Dec 24, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Yesterday, a U.S. district judge ruled that Odyssey Marine Exploration should return to Spain a fortune in old coins recovered from the wreck of a 19th-century Spanish warship.

Marine Exploration, Inc. (OTCBB: MEXP) announces it will not face the same court entanglements since the Company and its joint venture partner Hispaniola Ventures, LLC are salvaging wrecks in Dominican Republic jurisdictional waters under an exclusive host country contract with the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic retains all rights to any ships found in its jurisdictional territorial waters thus Marine Exploration and its joint venture partner Hispaniola Ventures, LLC are insulated from all claims by any foreign countries.

The 103 artifacts including silver coins, gold, pearl and diamond jewelry that have already been pulled up from the 1700s wreck the Company is currently working are legally protected according and based on a pre-determined division with the Dominican Republic.

Marine Exploration announced in September that the Dominican Republic had extended the Company's "in-country" contract for an additional 2 years expanding the contracted search area into waters that are of high interest to Marine Exploration. The Company's believes its chances of finding many treasure-bearing shipwrecks have risen significantly with the signing of that contract.
