It makes sense to me. Perusing can also mean "to survey or examine". So please explain how it makes no sense in that context?

If that's the word the author intended, it makes no sense in that context.

If it's a misspelling then what is it a misspelling of? Persuing? I hope not, because that's not how the word 'pursuing' is spelled, either.
