Oil and gas "very" found in the first phase of drilling offshore JDZ
The first phase of drilling in the joint development zone (JDZ) between Sao Tome and Nigeria resulted in the discovery of oil as expected, and "very" in one of the blocks, according to the national oil agency.
Luis Prazeres, Director of the Agency, the agency Lusa says that the results were presented to the oil Ministers of the two neighbouring countries joint development authority (JDA) during the Joint Ministerial Council meeting held last weekend. "Much gas, particularly in block 2, and also there is oil. What was disclosed offers good prospects", said Prazeres.
No work has been performed since Chevron completed its single hole in summer 2006.
Analysis will be completed and results announced by the end of January, and the next phase of drilling will start in May, 2010.
In recent months Sinopec drilled a well in block 2, and Addax drilled in blocks 3 and 4.
In block 2 was found very little oil and a lot of gas. The other blocks found hydrocarbons. Now companies are analyzing the data and may drill more wells to confirm, said Prazeres.
They said oil was found in blocks 3 and 4 as expected. Now they are doing more analytical work to determine the quantity. It was not said whether it is a lot or a little. Companies are very conservative during exploration.

the last Ministerial Council Andris ZDC passed to Nigeria, in the person of the first Nigerian Ambassador in São Tomé, Saidu Pindar.
In 2006 were detected traces of hydrocarbons in block 1, but without guarantee of commercial viability.
Jorge Santos, President of ADC, said recently that the lack of Chevron's results can mean the success of the work in contiguous block 2, due to a "vertical" at the bottom of the sea. "On the one hand Chevron only made a hole, which was not within the expectations of them. On the other hand it does not have bored in the right place. Between the block 1 and 2 there is a certain vertical, suggested that perhaps the whole expectation that has formed the first block [to] is in the second ".
To declare the commercial viability of a tergirgi must be made at least three holes for the definition, and a room for "development".

A primeira fase de perfurações na Zona de Desenvolvimento Conjunto (ZDC) São Tomé e Príncipe - Nigéria resultou na detecção de petróleo, em quantidade "esperada", e de "muito gás" num dos blocos, segundo a Agência Nacional de Petróleo são-tomense.
Luís Prazeres, director da Agência, diz à agência Lusa que os resultados foram apresentados aos ministros do Petróleo dos dois países vizinhos pela Autoridade de Desenvolvimento Conjunto (ADC) e pelas petrolíferas responsáveis, durante a reunião do Conselho Ministerial Conjunto realizada no passado fim-de-semana. "Encontrou-se gás, muito particularmente no Bloco 2, e também há petróleo. (...) Aquilo que foi dado a conhecer oferece boas perspectivas", segundo Prazeres.
Retomados no Verão, os trabalhos de campo na ZDC estavam interrompidos desde que a empresa norte-americana Chevron fez um único furo em 2006, no Bloco 1.
Os resultados estão a ser interpretados, os dados oficiais serão conhecidos no fim de Janeiro, prevendo-se nova fase de perfurações para Maio de 2010.
Nos últimos meses foram feitos um furo de pesquisa no Bloco 2 (operado pela chinesa Sinopec), outro no Bloco 3 e 4 (operado pela Addax).
"No bloco 2 foi encontrado algum petróleo e muito gás. Nos outros blocos há hidrocarbonetos. Agora as empresas estão a fazer análise de laboratório e eventualmente vão fazer mais furos de avaliação para confirmar", diz Prazeres. "Eles disseram que é uma quantidade [de petróleo nos blocos 3 e 4] dentro do esperado. Agora estão a fazer mais trabalho de análise para apurar a quantidade. Não foi dito que é bastante ou pouco. As empresas são muito conservadoras nesta fase de pesquisa e reservam informação".
No último conselho ministerial a presidência rotativa da ZDC passou para a Nigéria, na pessoa do primeiro embaixador nigeriano em São Tomé, Saidu Pindar.
Em 2006 foram detectados vestígios de hidrocarbonetos no Bloco 1, mas sem garantia de viabilidade comercial.
Jorge Santos, presidente da ADC, disse recentemente que a falta de resultados da Chevron pode significar o sucesso dos trabalhos no contíguo Bloco 2, devido a um "desnivelamento" no fundo do mar. "Por um lado a Chevron só fez um furo, que não estava dentro da expectativa deles. Por outro lado é bem possível que não tenham furado no sítio certo. Entre o bloco 1 e o 2 há um certo desnivelamento, do que se pode deduzir que eventualmente toda a expectativa que se tenha formado [para o primeiro bloco] esteja no segundo".
Para se declarar a viabilidade comercial de um poço têm de ser feitos, no mínimo, três furos para a definição, e um quarto para "desenvolvimento".
