Something's New A Brew-------------What might be taking our PPS up. We know about the Wencor buyout of APS, and we know about 10 or 11 airlines are signed up for digEplayers. This may account for some heavy hitters and the ''momo'' boys and girls entering the fray. But, it could just as easily be what we DON'T KNOW. Here's an example, remember when last year there was the discussion of how the Hollywood screeners weren't secure for the Academy Awards. What if 20thCentury Fox went to bat for us and said listen boys, this year we are going to use the digePlayers for screeners---listen up, this is a test??? They'd be reaching agreements right now for something like that for the 1st of the year and lots of people would know about it.
Now, I'm not suggesting that this is why our PPS is going up. I'm suggesting that something like this is probably happening. I could give you at least 5 scenarios that fit, but Wencor buying in on the open market does not make sense to me. Here's an other kind of play that could be taking place and much more likely than the screener idea.
What if a set top box outfit has reached agreement with EDIG to use our tech here in the states. So, here's the made-up story line: ''Paul Allen, no stranger to high-tech, has decided to take his Charter Cable Company into the next era of portable TV. He will leapfrog into on-the-go TV and movies with 'when ever/where ever' you want it--in the car, at Grandmother's, save that football game to watch after Christmas dinner. A little company out of San Diego's Wireless Dessert has come up with the techology and that company is e.Digital!'' etc., etc. The possibilities are endless. Something's new abrew. ORY
