It makes no sense, Valero signed a contract with an Australian company to buy biodiesel for $2.92/gallon for 60-120M gallons/year. Houston Biodiesel retails it locally for $2.49/gal. I'm pretty sure that behl or one of its competitors could produce biodiesel for around $2/gal wholesale. I know that fuel is the least profitable use of algae oil but it irks me to no end that an American company would go offshore to get product when so many startup green companies need the orders to justify the buildout of infrastructure.
