I do not think it will expedite the R/M, it just gives us a little more detail about Palmaz. But you never know, maybe they wanted this patent to be approved and then come out with some press on the patent as well as their "coming out" party.

Seems Palmaz must have created some subsidiaries, one being ABPS and possibly, another imo is Nitinol. This is going to be one big, powerful company with notable management, nanotech in medicine patents, and a whole lot of connections in the medical world!

Another interesting note is that the co-inventor besides Palmaz, Animesh Choubey, is listed in Fremont, CA, location of Palmaz's CA location as well as the location of Nitinol. Choubey, also like Palmaz, works/ed at UTSA.

I am not a scientist but looking at the patent, it looks like a huge one for them:

"An implantable, biocompatible material, comprising at least one surface of the material having an array of geometric features having on the at least one surface thereof having at least one of chemical, physiochemical and electrochemical activity different than regions of the at least one surface without the geometric features."

These guys will want to bring this story (company) public, not keep it private imo. Just the US coronary stent market is forecasted to be $2.3 billion by the end of 2009. That is just one kind of stent.

Again, a powerful company in the making imo. Let's just hope we are at the right place at the right time (maybe in October we were a little early or even right on time as that's when the volume was in the millions, someone was buying and tucking)..
