The advent of plant decommissioning of appliances and electronic Caraquet will not be a second Bennett Environmental, ensures the co-chair of environmental impact of this project nearly $ 25 million, Jean-Marie Gionet .

GreenSafe Demanufacturing and the City of Caraquet is the big picture, Tuesday, at the first ceremonial shovel of earth for the construction of a building 100 000 square feet in the industrial park. The company should treat its first aircraft by the end of 2010.

This whole presentation, including the message continually hammered on the environmental vision of the company, was not without recalling the case of Bennett Environmental.

At the beginning of the decade, had targeted Bennett Belledune, the Chaleur region, for its incineration plant soil contaminated with hydrocarbons. Some eight years, many pollution events and empty building which cost nearly $ 30 million later, his attempt to do business in northern New Brunswick has become a distant and very bad memory.

Mr. Gionet, who is also chairman of the Commission on Solid Waste Management in the Acadian Peninsula, wanted to establish some differences between what Bennett Environmental and proposed that GreenSafe Demanufacturing prepares to implement.

"Here in Caraquet, we do not talk burner and it does not mean incineration. We will rather decommissioning. If there were no pollutants during manufacture of the device, it should not have at its disposal. It is true that there is manipulation of CFC gases and is the most worrying. We will ensure that the equipment will be installed at the plant de Caraquet will be manufactured according to safety standards so that this gas is not discharged outside the company and ends up in the sky of the Acadian Peninsula, " he said.

Mr. Gionet has accepted the mandate with enthusiasm. He wants to ensure that all questions that people have about GreenSafe Demanufacturing will put the company, which should work more than a hundred people.

"I'm going to make their messenger. If someone has a question he has the right to have an answer. "

The plant in Caraquet, funded by Bergamo Acquisition, will use a European method for dismantling equipment and recovery of CFC gases. These will be processed in an inert saline solution. Three other kinds of plants will be built, including two in western Canada and another in Ontario.

The City has worked for four years on this issue, "said Mayor Anthony Landry. A land of 10 acres was sold at a cost of $ 1 to GreenSafe Demanufacturing, which will also benefit, for five years, rebate on property taxes.

The company even provides reopen within two years, the old railway track in the Acadian Peninsula in order to send its raw material from anywhere in North America. In this regard, the Transport Minister Denis Landry expects to shortly receive the visit of leaders GreenSafe.

"Their leaders have already come to see me to change the regulations on the transport rail short line and we did. That could allow them to build a track. What path will they choose? It's probably something else and they will certainly come talk to me very soon, "said the minister.

The lead interviewee, Jean-Marie, runs the local waste management commission and is also a member of our local environmental assessment committee. He and two local Greenpeace activists are very supportive of the project which will shave months off the approval process. The story at the end of the article regarding the railway being reopened is not a GreenSafe story although the volume from Greensafe and others would more than justify its operation.
