OT islandtime
I moved here for the exact same reason. Getting my kids into a very good PUBLIC school. We had come here on vacation for many years and I targeted a school here in Kihei and have been extremely happy with what we get. Hawaii is not very high on the nationwide average however this is newer school and rated one of the top if not top on the island (maybe state). My sons are 4 and 9 and my daughter is 8 and while they may not fully realize it they have a pretty cool lifestyle...
Unfortunately we chose to move here Sept 29, 2001 so we came shortly after 911 and since we are in the tourism business it totally changed our financial state for quite sometime, it also caused me to miss out on purchasing a house here as I thought the RE would continue to decline and I used the house money to buy another business on Guam (our previous home)that was hit hard by 911. The RE continues to go up here and while I could have sold the Q shares a couple of months back and paid cash for a very nice place I see much more potential for the Q in the next 6 months.
We just came back from Queensland Australia and had a great time! If we are unable to successfully purchase a house here in the near future we may head down under for a while...

Good luck on Kauai and I would like to here what you find in the way of schools. My oldest goes into 5th grade next year so we will probably hang here until he graduates from there.
Looking forward to meeting you sometime!

Aloha
Bob
