As a follow up to my prior post, I'd like to specify the following...
A desperate search for the girls began about dawn, as authorities pleaded for the public's help in finding the girls and activated the new "Amber Alert" system, which uses radio and television bulletins and electronic freeway signs to alert the public to abductions of children.
Gov. Gray Davis instituted Amber, an acronym for "America's Missing Broadcast Emergency Response," just last week after the kidnapping and murder of 5-year-old Samantha Runnion in Orange County. The system was used for the first time Wednesday after an unconfirmed report of an abduction in the San Francisco area.
My personal feeling is that this GOOD NEWS is directly related to the power of the computer industry and the Internet. It seems to me that the entire Media Industry is getting into the "FAST MOVE" mode and I suspect they learned that from the obvious power of the Internet in being able to quickly disperse vital information to law abiding citizens! It's nice to know that there are now ways to thwart the evil things that happen out there in a quick, efficiently swift manner!
