With all due respect I beg to differ. The most important issues related to alternate energy source development such as biomass, solar, wind etc, is the security of our country due to excessive dependence on energy supplied by foreign countries.
If the green movement were to evaporate today our country still needs to become less dependant on foreign interests which differ greatly from our own.

It is a win, win situation for us as a country in the sense we also will see jobs created as we continue to research, develop and implement technologies for alternate energy.

US energy independence and job creation are far more important and tangible incentives for alternate energy technology development and implementation than the concept of reducing green house emissions. Reduction of green house gases is far less of a reason to develop alternate energy sources and IMO is far down on the list and behind national security and job creation.
