MGMT has a job to do what is in the best interest of the sharholder, of course a buyout makes sense, however why keep it a secret? There is a massive naked short position, that is a fact. Regardless, if someone wants to buy the company for say, 30 cents, why not make the announcement? What good does it to do to keep it quite? If you make the announcement someone is TO at 30 cents, our stock price should shoot up around that number, then, perhaps some outsiders value our company and perhaps we are still cheap at 30 cents, so they better the first TO.
This is the best way to go about it, not close a deal without giving the rest of the market a chance to engage in the bidding process.
Then of course you have the "short factor", can you imagine the margin calls the shorts would get under such scenario? Thats when the price starts gapping 50, 100% daily.
Of course MGMT actually has to release the 10k, but thats another story.
I wish they would give us something, anything, so we can stop sitting here in the dark.
